Joining the Game

Politics India is a free, online, forum based simulation of Indian Politics. If you are unfamiliar with India, do not fear. I am sure you will find it to be an interesting experience. This short guide will equip you with the basic knowledge. As the game grows and becomes more involved, you might want to dip into wikipedia or Indian government webpages, nearly all of which are in English.

Joao Pedro's blog is an invaluable resource if you are new to political simulations - Joao's Blog.

India is a Westminster style Parliamentary democracy. You join the game as a MP in the lower house of Parliament, the Lok Sabha.

You need to register an account with a username. Please choose a realistic name, preferably an Indian name. You are strongly advised not to use the names of famous persons. Here is a list of current Lok Sabha MPs and constituencies.

Once you register an account, you need to choose a political party to play in. Read the entries in the Information Bank if you need help making the choice. There are three playable parties (blocks) in the game:

Bharatiya Janata Party - right of centre conservative party.
Congress Party - centre-left party.
United Front - alliance of socialist, communist and regional parties.

Of these, the United Front will be capped at a maximum of one member. Please send me a PM if you wish to join the United Front.

Upon choosing your party, please apply to the relevant usergroup by clicking on usergroups at the top of the page and applying to join the usergroup of the party that you wish to join.

You might want to pick a constituency. Soon, we shall draw up a list of constituencies and the parties that hold them. Until then, you can pick any constituency of your choice.

Please make a signature containing your name, party and any position you hold. Make sure that your profile automatically displays your signature each time you post by changing the settings under 'Profile'.
